From the Desk of the Glutathione Goddess
Are you one of the tens of millions of Americans scheduled for your annual physical exam and labs in the next 8 weeks?
From my years in clinical practice, Family Medicine and Internal Medicine practices experience an uptick in annual exams in the first few months of the year. And those exams and labs often came with big surprises!
The holidays are a perfect storm for blood sugar disruption!
More sugar. More refined carbs. More alcohol. Less sleep. Less movement. More stress.
For many people, January doesn’t just bring tighter jeans ~ it brings elevated fasting glucose, insulin resistance, energy crashes, cravings, and brain fog.
The usual advice is predictable: cut carbs, exercise harder, white-knuckle your way through a reset.
In addition to elevated glucose, the most common abnormal lab results we saw:
- Elevated lipids (LDL, Triglycerides)
- Higher A1c
- Vitamin D deficiency
- Liver enzyme elevation
- Inflammatory markers
And, there is a deeper reality:
Blood sugar control is not just a “diet” issue. Holiday hangovers begin at the cellular level, impacting all of our organ systems.
During the holidays, three things rise sharply:
√ Oxidative stress √ Inflammation √ Toxin burden (alcohol, food additives, excess fructose)
These factors directly impair insulin signaling and overwhelm mitochondria—the engines that burn glucose for energy.
When cells are stressed:
- Glucose stays in the bloodstream
- Insulin has to work harder
- Fat storage increases
- Energy production drops
This is why even though we “eat better” in January we often struggle to normalize blood sugar.
Now for some good news!
Over the past 16 years, I have learned that fastest way to restore metabolic balance after the holidays starts inside the cell with a patented bioavailable cysteine called RiboCeine.
Reviewing hundreds of cardiac test results that measured #inflammatory biomarkers, allowed me to see firsthand the impact of restoring cellular glutathione with RiboCeine™ during the 3-month follow up.
Ninety days of glutathione restoration with RiboCeine produced significant results!
During the first few months of each new year we see:
- Higher rates of myocardial infarction (heart attack)
- Blood pressure spikes
- Dyslipidemia detected during annual labs
- Increased clotting risk
In addition to the post-holiday health effects, winter increases risk for:
- Cold-induced vasoconstriction
- Sympathetic nervous system activation
- Oxidative stress & inflammation
- Glutathione depletion affecting endothelial function
Glutathione is often referred to as the body’s master antioxidant, however, its role in blood sugar regulation and lipid control is even more important than most people realize.
Optimal cellular glutathione levels:
- Reduce oxidative stress that blocks insulin signaling
- Protect pancreatic beta cells
- Improve mitochondrial glucose utilization
- Support liver detoxification and glycogen regulation
- Calm inflammation that drives insulin resistance
In short, glutathione restores the cell’s ability to respond to insulin, which is the true definition of blood sugar control. And glutathione doesn’t stop there. It impacts the health of all of your organs.
In my next post, we will compare RiboCeine to N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) for safety, efficacy and side effects.
